Congressman Meadows Visits Brevard Academy – Brevard NC

May 3, 2018

U.S. Congressman Mark Meadows got a tour of Brevard Academy in action on Tuesday morning.

School Director Ted Duncan led Meadows through the school.

"What we try to do is each time I'm back in the district, I try to visit at least one or two schools when I'm here for a week. So, today I'm just seeing the great work here at Brevard Academy," Meadows said.

With Dean of Students Kimberly Best, Nick Iosue, treasurer for Brevard Academy and vice-chair for the Board of Directors, and Tony Helton, CEO of Team CFA, Meadows visited the classrooms throughout the school. Some of the classes he visited included Emily Page's seventh- and eighth-grade social studies class, Amy Winston's art class, Michelle Peterson's fourth-grade language arts class, Derrick Gardner's music class and Jennifer Kelly's third-grade math class.

"A lot of people say, 'Only go to places where there are votes,' but for me, this is all about understanding the needs of future generations, talking to teachers and students," Meadows said. "You can get excited about our future based on the students' quality of education that our kids get in Western North Carolina, but there are also unbelievable needs out there as well."

Meadows said he's been to more than 60 schools so far.

"From a federal standpoint, this allows me to be cognizant of the needs and financial resources that have to be deployed," Meadows said.
