Pray for Las Vegas

Our hearts are broken after hearing the terrible news out of Nevada. To the victims of the heinous, cowardly act of violence in Las Vegas—Debbie and I are praying earnestly for you and grieving with you. And to the first responders who have been working around the clock since—thank you for your courage, your bravery, and your service.

Welcoming Heroes – Honor Flight Program

Last weekend, I was honored to welcome a group of veterans and heroes of the Korean War to Washington, DC, as part of the Blue Ridge Honor Flight Program. The Honor Flight program provides free flights for veterans across the country to visit Washington, DC, and see the monuments that recognize their heroic service. What a privilege it is to thank these veterans personally and hear their stories.

I encourage you to read this article here from WLOS to learn more about the Honor Flight Program and my friend Jeff Miller’s efforts. This is a tremendous program that does a fantastic job recognizing the heroism of our veterans.

Welcome back Steve Scalise

Last week we received some of the best news in a long time: Congressman Steve Scalise (R-LA) is back at work! We are thrilled to see him recovering from his injuries and doing well—please continue praying for him and his family.

I joined Chuck Todd on Meet the Press Daily to talk about Congressman Scalise’s return to the House floor—you can watch the full interview here

House Freedom Caucus Endorses Tax Reform Framework

Some major news from last week: the House Freedom Caucus endorsed the framework for a new tax reform plan, and Congress passed the budget resolution vehicle for allowing tax reform to be considered under reconciliation rules (letting the Senate approve the bill with only 51 votes instead of 60). This is an exciting development and a major step toward finally cutting your taxes and getting this plan passed.

The framework for the plan, released this week, slashes small business tax rates to 25%, lowers corporate tax rates to 20%, doubles standard deductions, and allows individual Americans to keep more of their hard-earned money. This is a productive move toward pro-growth, pro-family tax reform that will benefit hard-working taxpayers.

My conversations with President Donald Trump on the issue have been very encouraging – he is 100% focused on getting this done for you, and I believe we will.

From this point, I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues to develop a full plan that keeps our commitments to the voters. It’s time we get serious about growing our economy and pass real tax reform by Thanksgiving. This is a must-win opportunity. Let’s get it done.

I also spoke with Neil Cavuto on Fox News here and did an interview with Morning Joe here to explain why cutting the small business tax rate is so important to growing jobs and the economy. Additionally, you can visit my website and read my statement on the budget vote here.

H.R. 36 – the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act

I was honored to vote in favor of H.R. 36, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act—a bill to protect the lives of unborn children and ban late-term abortion after 20 weeks. Thank you to my friend and colleague, Congressman Trent Franks (R-AZ), for introducing the bill and seeing it through.

We have a moral duty to protect unborn lives

Service Academy Day

It was an honor to see and meet some of the outstanding young men and women at our annual Service Academy Day! This is an event we put on to help students, teachers, and parents learn more about opportunities available through the service academies.

Thanks so much to everyone who came and said hello!
