Interview with PBS Newshour

I interviewed with PBS Newshour to discuss the path forward on making sure we see results on the voters' agenda. Bottom line: Congress needs to deliver on what we promised during campaign season. Healthcare reform, tax reform, securing our southern border, and other policy goals are all critical—and we need to see results much sooner rather than later.

You can watch and read the full interview here.

Visit to Rutherford College Elementary School

Western North Carolina has some of the most dedicated teachers and students in the country—every time I get a chance to visit, I’m amazed. This time around I was able to stop by Rutherford College Elementary School. Thank you to everyone there for having me! The 4th and 5th grade students were outstanding—their parents and teachers should be very proud.

The students were kind enough to make a welcome sign!

Op-ed with Rep. Jim Jordan: Give Us Real Tax Reform, Not a Pig in a Poke

I wrote an op-ed with my colleague Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) in the Wall Street Journal, calling for House Republican leadership to show us their tax reform plan early in the process—avoiding the same mistakes made during the healthcare fight in the House.

Our current situation can be explained by an analogy that Rep. Jordan and I use in the piece. If a car salesman shows you a picture of a car and demands a nonrefundable down payment, you’d probably say, “Wait a minute. I’ve got a few questions. What’s the model year? What’s the car’s condition? How many miles are on it?” You might even ask to see the car. That’s the situation we face with tax reform—except they haven’t even shown us a picture.

The House Freedom Caucus is ready to support tax reform--if we are confident the tax plan will actually cut taxes for families, simplify the code, and create jobs. Secrecy does us no good. Show us the plan. Show the American people the plan.
