House Freedom Caucus names Melika Willoughby McKinnis as communications director
Washington, D.C. - On Monday, the House Freedom Caucus announced Melika Willoughby McKinnis will serve as the group’s new communications director. McKinnis comes to the Freedom Caucus from the State Department. She previously worked as communications director for Kansas Governor Sam Brownback and U.S. Representative Jim Jordan.
“Melika brings both a wealth of communications experience and strong conservative credentials to our work in the Freedom Caucus,” said Chairman Mark Meadows. “She’s spent her career working to advance America’s first principles, and we are thrilled she’s joining the Freedom Caucus to do the same here on Capitol Hill.”
Ben Williamson served as acting communications director for the Freedom Caucus since July. Williamson has maintained his duties in the personal office of Chairman Mark Meadows and will now return to that work full-time.
“The entire membership thanks Ben for his willing service during this period of transition,” said Chairman Meadows. “He’s done a tremendous job for the caucus, and I look forward to his continued good work.”
