Representative Mark Meadows (NC-11) released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 3080, the Water Resources Reform & Development Act (WRRDA) of 2013.
“Today I joined my colleagues in voting to pass the only fiscally responsible and reform-focused water resources and development bill to ever be considered in the House of Representatives,” Meadows said. “As a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, I was pleased to both co-sponsor this legislation and vote in favor of it on the House floor. WRRDA’s passage protects more than 13 million jobs and supports our maritime system that handles 99% of our nation’s trade.
“Containing no earmarks, WRRDA puts us on a path to a more limited federal role in water infrastructure development by laying the groundwork for increased private sector and state-level oversight. It also places strict limits on the amount of time and money the federal government can spend on feasibility studies that have held up vital projects for decades and cost taxpayers millions of dollars. After years of silence on needed reforms, the House took strong bipartisan action today to cut federal red tape and strengthen water transportation networks in order to promote American competitiveness, jobs and trade.”
