House Votes to Keep Government Running and Stop Obamacare

Meadows on the continuing resolution debate: "It is time the Representatives start representing the people.

Last night, the House passed a continuing resolution to keep the government open while delaying the implementation of Obamacare for one year and repealing the job-killing medical device tax.

The American people should not be subjected to this flawed health care law that will drive up the costs of premiums and hurt businesses and families as they try to comply with its complicated rules and regulations.A Forbes article published this week noted that North Carolina will be "worst off" under Obamacare, with individual premiums tripling for women and quadrupling for men.

Delaying implementation of Obamacare while repealing the medical device tax, which is costing the healthcare community billions of dollars, reflects what my constituents have been asking for as they face rising premiums, lost coverage, and cutbacks in hours. The American people deserve the same reprieve from this devastating law that President Obama has already given to businesses and other powerful interests.

The House also passed the Pay Our Military Act, which ensures that our troops who are sacrificing to protect our freedoms continue to receive pay in the event of a government shutdown.

For the second time in less than two weeks, I have joined my House colleagues in voting to keep the government open while protecting hardworking Americans from the consequences of a sweeping health care takeover that is not ready for implementation. Now it is time for the Senate and President Obama to stand with us in representing the will of the people.
