11th District Spotlight

It has been a great fall weekend in Western North Carolina! I hope you are enjoying the beautiful weather with family and friends.
United Nations Nomination
Earlier this year, I was honored when Speaker Boehner nominated me as a Representative of the United States to the Sixty-eighth Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations. Now that President Obama has signed off on the nomination, I look forward to being a constructive, conservative voice for America within this international body. Serving as a direct liaison between Congress and the UN, I am committed to keeping my House colleagues well-informed of any issues that might require congressional action. It is crucial that our nation maintains its sovereignty while being a leader on the international stage.
Despite this new responsibility, my constituents remain my top priority. I will continue to represent the 11th District of North Carolina while fulfilling this role within the United Nations.
Defund Obamacare Push Continues

On Tuesday I had the opportunity to address the crowd at the Exempt America from Obamacare rally, including many constituents who made the trip from Western North Carolina to participate. The American people do not want to hand over their health care decisions to Washington bureaucrats. It is time for their voices to be heard.
Honoring my commitment to defund Obamacare, I became a co-sponsor of the Stability, Security and Fairness Resolution this week. This bill keeps the government open while stopping Obamacare and has the ability to unify my colleagues around achieving those two goals. Support for the bill is growing quickly in the House, and I will actively serve as a favorable voice for this bill as it moves forward.
Remembering September 11th
Wednesday marked the 12th anniversary of September 11th, 2001. We continue to remember and honor those who lost their lives in such a horrific attack on our nation. Our first responders deserve our deepest gratitude for their bravery and selflessness. We recognize that terrorism will not shake our resolve, and we know God is faithful to renew our strength.
As we reflect on that day, we also remember the four Americans who lost their lives in last year's terrorist attack on the American consulate in Benghazi. We cannot rest until we have answers for the American people and justice for those who paid with their lives.
Today, as we were 12 years ago, we are united as Americans. We will never forget.
