11th District Spotlight

This week I came home to the 11th District. Here are a few highlights:

I had the honor of addressing the men and women of the North Carolina National Guard's 630th Combat Sustainment and Support Battalion at a mobilization ceremony in Granite Falls prior to their deployment to Egypt. My prayers are with them as they selflessly serve our country abroad.

Isaac, a student at Brevard High School, called my DC office personally a few weeks ago and invited me to visit his school. Because of his kind invitation, I had the opportunity to spend a morning speaking to the students. I also visited Brevard Academy and took questions from the students there.

The Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation presented me with this flag, which now hangs alongside the North Carolina state flag at the entrance to my DC office.

At a ceremony hosted by Disabled American Veterans Chapter 58 in Bakersville, I had the honor of presenting medals to Lee Gouge of Bakersville for his service in Korea and to Mrs. Margie Ingram of Newland for her late husband George's service in Vietnam.

Visiting local businesses is a welcome reminder of our district's hard-working entrepreneurial spirit. I had the chance to visit SylvanSport in Brevard and Printpack Inc. in Marshall.

It is an honor to represent you - my constituents, neighbors, and friends - in the 11th District.

Happy Easter!

Tomorrow we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Debbie, Blake, Haley, and I wish you and your family a blessed day rejoicing in the hope of salvation we've received through Christ's sacrifice.

Matthew 28: 1-9
After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him.
