House Freedom Caucus’ Statement on President Trump’s Address to a Joint Session of Congress

Mar 1, 2017
Press Release

Washington, D.C.— President Donald Trump addressed a joint session of the United States Congress for the first time Tuesday. The Freedom Caucus released the following statement:

“President Trump laid out a forward-looking, optimistic vision for our country that puts the needs of the men and women on Main Street before those of Washington, D.C. In his first month in office, President Trump has fundamentally shaken up Washington by doing something simple: keeping the promises he made to the American people. We applaud his actions undoing large portions of President Obama’s regulatory regime that were crippling businesses and unnecessarily burdening ordinary Americans. We are optimistic about the budget he laid out, that prioritizes rebuilding our military, while also addressing portions of our crippling debt.

On the campaign trail, and again tonight as President, Trump reaffirmed his commitment to repealing Obamacare in its entirety and replacing it with a market-driven plan that lowers costs for American families. We look forward to working alongside President Trump to undo this disastrous law that is hurting American families and replacing it with a conservative approach.”

Mission statement of the House Freedom Caucus:

“The House Freedom Caucus gives a voice to countless Americans who feel that Washington does not represent them. We support open, accountable and limited government, the Constitution and the rule of law, and policies that promote the liberty, safety, and prosperity of all Americans.”
