House Freedom Caucus statement on passage of House budget with reconciliation instructions

Washington, D.C. -- The House Freedom Caucus released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed its FY 2018 budget with reconciliation instructions regarding tax reform:

"We made a promise to the American people to reduce their tax burden, and today’s vote is the first step toward fulfilling that promise. The Freedom Caucus is hopeful that Congress can now move forward on developing a full pro-growth tax plan that lowers rates, simplifies our code, and allows hard-working taxpayers to keep more of their money – delivering on the promises we made to the voters last November.

“But just because we’ve started to work on tax reform doesn’t mean we can ignore our promises to repeal Obamacare, reduce federal spending and reform the welfare system. We can’t allow show votes and excuses to be considered victories anymore. The American people sent us here to do what we said, and Congress must continue working to implement all aspects of the president’s agenda until we’ve kept those promises.”

Following the unveiling of the Republican framework for tax reform last week, the House Freedom Caucus took an official position in support of the framework and the House Republican budget with reconciliation instructions.
